Full Job Description

Job Description: Under the direction of the Logistics Director, The Trade Specialist is responsible for ensuring efficient movement of goods across international borders while maintaining compliance with customs regulations for both CHS Canada and CHS USA. This includes overall customs valuation, tariff classification, duty obligations, managing local customs policies and documentation audits. This role will also support all day-to-day operations related to customs working closely with supply chain, logistics, legal, and finance teams to ensure global trade processes run smoothly Essential Responsibilities: Lead all aspects of import and export activities, including classification, valuation, and country of origin determinationDevelop and deploy global standard processes and procedures to ensure controls in place to mitigate the risks associated with customs valuation. Advise and collaborate with other departments on appropriate customs classifications, valuations, and duty rates to ensure accurate costs are tracked and maintained Create and proactively maintain master database with appropriate information relevant to trade complianceReview vendor certificates of origin for completeness and accuracy, ensure that broker has up to date informationPrimary contact for any inquiries regarding customs regulations for all internal and external partners.Manage and resolve all day-to-day operational issues such as import and export documentation discrepanciesOversee, audit and occasionally prepare required documents for import and export shipments Ad-hoc projects as per requestKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Detailed understanding of import/export operations, tariff classification and multinational trade compliance procedures Proficient knowledge of export/import documentation & IncotermsDetail understanding of supply chain logistics including all modes of transportation and warehousing Knowledge of international ports and geographyExperience in duty drawback and customs duty recovery Qualifications/Requirements: Certificate in International Trade Practices or equivalentMinimum 2-3 years of experience in customs brokerage, trade compliance, or a similar role. 3+ years’ experience with ocean and air shipping procedures Strong proficiency with MS Office TMS experience preferred ERP experience (Microsoft Business Central/Dynamics an asset)Self-motivated, positive attitude
